Quiet Worship

spacerbar

Sometimes one is just in the mood for tranquility. It is in those times that I love Quiet Worship!

Here is a growing collection of some of my favorites. Many songs are glorying to the Lord, and there are some selections I have added just because they are beautiful and make me think of Heaven or just a beautiful place or creation God has fashioned on earth.

What is our definition of quiet worship? Calm, peaceful, serene and restful music. Certainly there is a place for more celebratory music, but for many, if not most, “soft” sounds are more conducive to relaxation, reading, meditating, worship, prayer and/or intercession.

Feel free to comment and/or recommend your personal favorites. Perhaps I’ll post them here. Enjoy!

Angela ~ In the Year of our Lord, 2009

EVA CASSIDY ~ Over The Rainbow

Although this is not a “worship song” per se, it is “The” absolute most beautiful arrangement I’ve ever heard. It always reminds me of God, this beautiful earth he gave to us, and Heaven, where, by God’s grace all we, who have trusted Christ for Salvation, will go one day. Sadly, Eva left us at age 33.

Rick Founds ~ In The Beauty of Your Holiness

Psalm 96:9 -Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.

Delighting in God’s name

Nehemiah 1:1 – When was the last time you fasted and prayed about the moral state of affairs in our country.  I was struck this morning by  Nehemiah’s words “hear us who delight in revering your name” … from Nehemiah 1:1.  I immediately thought….Lord who truly reveres your name today.  Do we revere it enough that it makes a difference in our daily lives, in our time spent, in what we spend our money on?

Something happened in Nehemiah’s heart that created a burning desire to begin the work of rebuilding Jerusalem.  This was no small task.  He had purpose and now what he needed was provision and protection.  Trusting in the Lord, he comes before the King and makes his request known.  To his JOY (and God true to his word) he finds favor with the King.  He sets out to begin his mission, and the rest is history.

Of course it should be noted that Nehemiah had his enemies.  Like many of us who set out to do good today, there are always the “ites” who will attempt to thwart God’s purpose in our lives.

You must leave your wife today. What!

.
The unfaithfulness of the exiles.

God is absolutely serious when he gives a command a seperation and we we see that in Ezra 9 and 10.  This is heavy reading and drama at its fullest.

The account in Ezra 8 and 9 is that not a few of The leaders of Israel were guilty of the Great sin of intermarrying those whom God Had forbidden them to marry.

God told Israel (Ezra 9: 1,2) to separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way.  Everyone sat around Ezra trembling at God’s words.

Ezra, ashamed and disgraced comes before God and acknowledges the great sin of Israel And God’s judgment.  He also recognizes God’s mercy in leaving a remnant and is Thankful that God has not abandoned them.  Grateful that God has granted them a chance to Begin again to rebuild God’s house.

And yet Ezra confesses their complete disregard For following God’s commands to not give their Daughters or sons in marriage.  Nor to make Treaties of friendship with them.  Ezra tells God They are deserving of the punishment God has Applied to them and because of it not one of them Can stand in his presence.

And so (Chapter 10) we see large numbers of people gathering around the weeping and repenting Ezra.  They to wept bitterly.  Shecaniah leads the
Way in repenting before God and exclaims that There is still hope.  The leaders, priests and all Israel will covenant before God to send away the
wives and the children and rally around Ezra in support.

Obedience to the LordOn Dec 20 in that day all Israel gathered in Jerusalem in the square at the temple in the Rain.  It was decided how best to handle the matter in an orderly fashion, pledged to put Away their wives and presented a guilt offering.

And so … WOW … imagine what that whole ordeal must have been like.  I see images in my mind like the one left.  Fathers saying goodbye to wives and children they love.  This is true faith isn’t it?  The kind of faith that does the hard thing after they’ve done the easier thing.  It is always easier to follow the desires of our flesh.  Then we are left with the harder business of going back to the fork in the road, repenting, seeking forgiveness and surrender.

Food for though: I want to have this kind of faith … still …. that must have been a dreadful day.  The scripture tells us it was raining that day.  No doubt the rain on the outside, matched the rain on the inside of everyone’s souls.

On final thought.  I wonder where all those women and children went, and how in the world did they survive in that male dominated culture.  Oh my!
