The picture you see below has been making its way around the internet lately.   At first glance it sounds nice doesn’t it?   The little girl is so engaging, and the picture evokes peace, tranquility and that all is right with the world.

Did you, at one time in your life, accept Jesus as your Savior, ask him to come and live in your heart and even profess Christ Jesus is The Messiah?  Did something happen “new” in your life and now you believe that the Earth is your mother?  Well , it could very well be that instead of moving closer to God, you may now (according to the teaching of God’s word) have actually turned away from God.

HEBREWS: 3:12-15 – ¹² See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. ¹³ But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. ¹⁴ We have come to share in Christ, if (emphasis mine) indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. ¹⁵ As has just been said:“Today, if you hear his voice,  do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

AND YES, I KNOW THIS IS OLD TESTAMENT TEACHING, but all of God’s word is useful for teaching and all is inspired by him.  In these verses, I believe, we find teaching that is still applicable today.  SO … let’s take a more in-depth look at “Mother Earth” thinking and we see that it is nothing less than Pantheism at it’s core.

Jesus said in John 14:6: I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.

When Jesus enters our heart and mind he also gives wisdom.  We may not know immediately WHY something isn’t truth but when we hear something that doesn’t line up with the truth and the inerrancy of God’s word, God’s Holy Spirit (whom he promises us at the point of salvation) will indwell us and teach us all things.  There will be a kind of “check” in our spirit that what we are hearing is either true or false.

When I read those words in the picture you see (above) I stopped to think about them.  I thought “whoa … I’ve got to check this out”.

“Our Mother Earth”  …   What ???

Let’s ponder that statement a bit shall we?  Here’s what I’m thinking:  At the point when I stand in front of my maker and God asks me “why should I let you into Heaven?”  What if I said this: “Well I never brought harm to any other human or animal, and I never harmed the earth you provided for me?”  Think about those words for a moment.  Those words that I plan to say when I meet my maker will condemn me.  WHY?

Because what we are saying is that because we were “so good” we should merit Heaven.  God said that no one is good enough to earn a place in Heaven, and in fact had plenty to say about the true condition of men’s hearts.

Here are just a few verses to support God’s position on the matter of “being good enough” to get into heaven:

Romans 3:23 – ²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:10-11 – ¹⁰ As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; ¹¹ There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.

Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

The words in that picture above sound nice, “seem nice, seem right”, but the truth of the matter is that no matter how nice, how sweet, how holy, and however good or perfect enough we try to be; whatever “religion” we try to follow that is outside the true and living God’s plan of salvation, in the end it WILL lead to death.

It is critical to know what and why you believe what you do.  Many people outside of Christ think that Christians are brainwashed.  I used to think that too.  But a simple bowing of the head and heart and asking the Lord of the Universe to show you whether his words are true or not, a simple repentant and humble attitude toward the state of your soul and an honest truth seeker who comes to God humbly, and asking for the bread of life will never be turned away by God.  Once the LORD has revealed himself to you, you will know the truth and that truth will forever be embedded in your soul and that truth will set you free from all error and lies forever.

FINALLY … I want to share the words of The Apostle Paul, for these words apply always:

2nd Timothy 4: 1-4:  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.  ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.  ⁵ But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

 In closing … I join in the ranks of Christians who have asked the important question down through the ages.

“If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”
