Does Your Faith Serve You Well ?

How’z that “Christianity Thing” workin out for ya!

Faithful Faith

This morning I’ve been meditating on a portion of scripture from Mark 4:35-41.

This is a familiar portion of scripture which deals with the account of Jesus calming the storm. Seems straight-forward enough. The disciples were in the boat with Jesus, Jesus was exhausted so he fell asleep on a cushion in the back of the boat. A storm comes up, the disciples are scared to death that they were all going to drown. So they wake up Jesus and I can imagine in a rather panicked tone asked him “don’t you care if we drown”? Jesus gets up rebukes the wind and says to the waves “Quiet! Be Still! Scripture reads that the wind died down and it was completely still. Woah! Did you ever stop to REALLY think about those words?

Faithful FaithThis passage has obvious applications for all areas of our life. The issue at hand here is FEAR. Most of us have had fear at one time or another in our lives. I wonder how many of us though have had the kind of fear where we thought we were going to die. In that moment, hour or season of our life, what did we do with that fear? Was our faith still intact? Did we draw upon the power of the Holy Spirit and cling to the promises of God? Did we crawl up in our Father God’s lap and embrace his love? Or did the opposite happen? Did we remain in our fear, or perhaps worse, run from our fear? Did we ask God for help but when God didn’t act quickly enough for us (as he did with the disciples) did we turn away from him. Did we then become embittered and walk away from God.

Why does God do miracles for some and seemingly ignores others? Is God a respecter of persons? We know Scripture teaches that God does not show favoritism and so I’m thinking there must be something else going on when God chooses to leave us as we are.
